Editorial Policy

Be American Stay Republican™ (B.A.S.R) is a Houston, Texas based apparel brand and civic project. The Journal is our editorial arm, publishing essays and explainers that support the ideas behind the brand.

We are an openly conservative publisher. We do not present ourselves as a neutral news organization, and we do not claim balance we do not practice. We believe stating a viewpoint openly is more honest than asserting neutrality while writing from a perspective anyway.

We are also not an academic or legal authority. Our writers are not credentialed historians or attorneys. Articles are written as informed civic commentary grounded in primary sources, and should be read that way — as a well-sourced argument, not as scholarly or legal authority.

Where a primary source exists, we cite the primary source. When we discuss the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, or the Bill of Rights, we link to the National Archives transcript rather than to a secondary summary of it, so readers can check the original wording themselves.

Every published article carries a visible "Sources & Further Reading" section listing the works relied upon, with direct links to the holding institution. If an article makes a factual claim we cannot source, we remove the claim rather than soften it.

We distinguish between three different kinds of statement, and try to make clear in the text which one is in play: documented historical fact, contested interpretation on which reasonable people differ, and our own opinion or advocacy.

Articles are drafted by the B.A.S.R Editorial Team or by a named author, then reviewed against their cited sources before publication. Founder and publisher Rico Sharma approves every article before it goes live and is ultimately accountable for what appears here.

Every article displays its author, its original publication date, and — where it has been revised — the date it was last updated. Reading time is calculated automatically from the article's actual word count, so the estimate cannot drift away from the real length of the piece.

Articles that are still in progress are marked as drafts, excluded from our article index and sitemap, and flagged as non-indexable so they cannot be mistaken for finished work.

We correct errors openly. When a substantive factual error is identified, we fix it, record it on our corrections page, and update the article's last-updated date. We do not quietly amend a claim and leave no trace that it changed.

We sell apparel, and some of our writing — such as our buyer's guides — is intended to help readers make purchasing decisions. Where an article relates to something we sell, we say so in the article itself rather than burying the relationship.

Our buyer's guides are written to be useful even to readers who buy nothing from us. That means describing how to judge fabric weight, fit, print method, and country-of-origin claims in general terms that can be applied to any seller, including our competitors. Where we mention our own products, we mark it clearly as our own product.

We may use AI tools to assist with research, drafting, and proofreading. No article is published on the basis of AI output alone. A human reviews every factual claim against its cited source, and a human is named as author and takes responsibility for the finished piece.

We welcome challenges to our facts and our reasoning. If you believe an article is wrong, contact us with the specific claim and, where possible, the source that contradicts it. Substantive corrections are published; disagreements about opinion are simply noted, since a difference of political judgement is not an error.
